Italy football fan dies in fight

A football fan has died during fighting between rival supporters in northern Italy, police say.
The violence broke out at a motorway restaurant near Arezzo in Tuscany.

The victim, a fan of Rome's Lazio, was apparently shot in a clash with supporters of Turin-based Juventus, Italy's Ansa news agency reported.

Prime Minister Romano Prodi said the episode was "very worrying". In April his government introduced a law aimed at stamping out football hooliganism.

It was enacted after a policeman was killed in rioting at a match in Sicily in February.

Lazio and Juventus were not due to play against each other on Sunday.

Lazio was scheduled to face Inter Milan and Juventus was up against Parma.

Apparently the Atalanta v Milan game has been abondoned part-way through.

        No idea why.

How do England have a worse reputation that Italy, most English hooliganism takes place in lower leagues now.

Italian police are shocking, look at the Utd incident last year.

That's the greatest spelling of hooliganism I think I've ever seen.

Just how out of hand do things have to get in Italy before decisive action is taken? Animals. Absolute animals.

He was accidentally (supposedly) shot by a police officer. Perhaps it's actually an argument against having armed police rather than banning Italian football. Or do football fans not actually fight each other in this country?

Could it be some people are too quick to leap to conclusions...?
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

There's been another game abandoned due to crowd trouble today (so I read here anyway). That doesn't happen in this country.

Milan accidentally scored so they could no longer fix it to 'lose to nil', hence the abondonment.

Atalanta v Milan was cancelled after the crowd trouble. Believe me, fans in Bergamo are nuts.
