      I dont *really* care, but...

He's done better of late, but with the players he has, qualification should be a foregone conclusion. Challenging to win honours should be something he achieves.

If they qualify, he should probably go to the finals, he's taken them there and a new man would make everything unstable.

If they dont qualify, he should be gone.

      Realistic replacements? Is mourinho realistic?

If not, O'Neill's motivational skills, combined with the talent available, would be the way to go.

He should go regardless of what happens.

He simply isn't good enough. We should have pissed this group and here we are on the verge of going out.

The annoying thing about McClown is that he was Svens assistant and knew what the problems were but he has done absolutly nothing to solve those problems. In 18 months we have not moved on one jot in terms of progress.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I am of the opinion that a change is management is meant to mean that the new manager is better than the old one. Now looking at track record now, McClown has lost two matches in qualification whilst Sven lost one in six years. The figures don't lie. McClown must go despite the result. Its not going to happen if England go through knowing the gutless FA so England could end up with McClown at South Africa.

Alan Smith instead of Agbonlahor is another example on how **** he is judging players.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Players like Alan Smith have been in and around the squad for ages and have NEVER looked like international footballers but still get a chance ahead of a younger player or one with a less fashionable club.

To see players like this get chances time and again is just plain wrong.

I'd rather see Agbonlahor given a chance or even somebody like Darren Bent ahead of Alan Smith.

I don't know why Defoe gets a chance. He doesn't even play for Spurs. McClaren therefore is saying England aren't as good as Spurs

No he's not, he is saying he rates Defoe differently to the manager of Spurs or that Defoe is better suited to international than PL football.

You could argue that with Crouch this season.

To be fair, Defoe is another who has been around now for a while and hasn't really done it on the international stage. I know he hasn't had much of a go but there must be a reason for that.

Maybe its time to move on from Defoe.

It's painfully obvious that the FA have to sack McClown and hire Mourinho.

He'd ****ing love the job and he is the best coach out there IMO.

It's a no brainer, which is quite challenging for the FA

Can't see the FA having the balls to appoint Mourinho. He would terrify them.

I'd honestly like to see Harry Redknapp get the job if we go down the England only route. His teams try to play good football, he isn't a bull****ter and he is tactically aware. His problem has always been buying cheaper players that were a risk. Given a pool of players he could only pick from, I'm sure he would do a good job.

He would have to be better than picking from the usual choice of Allardyce or Curbishley.

He's terrible. The chorus of support for him from players, managers and loudmouths like John Barnwell is painful and the convenient campaign to limit the number of foreign players is a transparent attempt to divert attention from his abject failure (assuming Russia qualify of course).

Mind you, at least he isn't responsible for the deliberate killing of someone he is supposed to be protecting so if Ian Blair can hold on to his job I don't see why McClaren needs to go.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Sam will probably get the job is McClown is sacked. I can't see Newcastle standing in their way if FA want him.

But if they qualify, and you bring in a new man with a load of new ideas to feed through, there's no stability.
