Why aren't national teams like Germany and Italy ****? Why isn't there a dearth of Spanish or Portuguese talent? They too are allowed to sign as many foreigners as they like in their leagues, aren't they? Not 100% sure, but I think they can. I'd suggest the problem is that there are fundamental flaws in the way players over here are developed, and they have their impact long before it comes to fighting for a first team place with the evil foreigners.

Should we limit the number of foreign players in the English Football?

But surely there is something in the system that means we don't produce players of the calibre we need and tend to believe we already had. The problem which is trying to be addressed isn't the perception of greater quality but the absence of the actual world class players surely.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postto limit the amount of foreigners in the EPL would be ridiculous!! the arguement about helping the national team is laughable....the reason england has a **** national team is obvious - you think you are better than you actually are!!
england doesn't have an embarrasement of riches as has so often been claimed."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I imagine a lot of the reason lies in the differences in culture between the many different countries footballing setups. While I'm fairly certain that quotas is the wrong way to go I'm not sure that our particular footballing culture would need the same solutions as others to improve the national team.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostWhy aren't national teams like Germany and Italy ****? On a different tack I think that what might be helpful would be a better FA presence in development. As an example the recently ended setup in Argentina with the national youth teams attempting to give players a national identity and focus on certain skills seems to have worked wonders. An interesting article about teh end of the original management team is here.
I think that what is probably needed is to have a firm policy which is at a level in which the top clubs are not involved. The nature of the setup in England means that they can't give players directed competitive experience in the way that is possible in say Spain with feeder teams which must mean that the players who would develop later given the right coaching or who need greater experience to progress than others fall by the wayside. Or I suppose we could introduce some form of feeder team system."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
