I wonder what would happen if he was in charge of a top 4 team.

I've often thought he'd do well at a top team.

His teams always play an attractive brand of football.

Steve Coppell is probably the only other English manager who could do a good job but I can't see him wanting the position.

At International level what is more important attribute as a manger Tactical awareness or motivation?

It's a tough one I would say that the ability to knit a group of players into a motivated team who understand the way the manager wants them to play is the key skill, especially given the limited time that an international manager has withhis players.

Having said that as with all high level knockout competitions when it come to the later stages the ability to make tactical changes at the right times is an incredible asset. Part of this though is having the humility to admit when you get things wrong and listening to good advice.

Depends on the players, but I would have thought there was a similar importance of both.

For me Mourinho is a good manager who makes decisive substitutions, but tactically he is poor. I think this can be summed up by his persistent ploy of hoofing huge long balls to a centre half like Robert Huth playing up front the last ten minutes.

If Mourinho was to get the position England would be playing like Greece in the 2004 championships.

If you (English folk) can stand that then I'd say he's a real option.

In the (good) old days motivation never came into it. You're playing for your country. You get no higher recognition in the game. If you need motivation you need to be somewhere other than the dressing room come international weekend.

Tacticians (particularly since Greece, 2004), it seems to me, are vital at this level. Benitez will be an awesome national manger for someone, someday.

Maureen will say no as he wants to manage the Portugal team, i am sure he is one that believes that national team should be managed by one of your own.

I don't think he could resist the huge spotlight that would be on him if he was England manager, for some it would put them off the job, but he thrives on the attention.

mourinho's managerial ability lie elsewhere, he's not the greatest tactician, more of a motivational genius. he can get the best out of anyone...

Okay a better way of putting it would be "comparativelty tactically poor".

He comes up short against better tacticians.

Spot on. You only have to look at the two CL semi finals we beat them in.

With the money they'd spent, we shouldnt have been able to compete against them - especially not over two legs, where they have a 2nd game to rectify any flukey cock ups. But they couldnt beat us, because Rafa tactically outsmarted Mourinho twice (arguably four times).
