I think that Owen Hargreaves is very strong technically. Not a flair player but very good short passing, close control and movement.

Joe Cole is technically gifted. Big time.

Rooney is to a degree as is SWP,

Really Joe Cole is all though.

          Crouchy aint bad!

As for one of your other points, Al…

I thought full-size pitches/nets for youngsters had been dispensed with? Or is that just for kids within the academies?
how did the word Crouch get in

Someone still involved in kids footy will have to answer that in terms of now. But I did notice one of the journo's on Sunday Supplement raise it as an issue last Sunday so he's either misinformed or nothing has changed.

If you type the word l u r c h, it comes out as Crouch.

An ex-member used to (and still does, elsewhere) refer disparagingly to Crouch as L u r c h, because he hates him and winces every time he scores , so this neat little filter thingy was applied to scupper him.

hmm, i'd be more inclined to believe that was the reason for increased gang violence....but whatever

Computer games make kids prefer to sit inside and play FIFA/PES, rather than actually get a ball and go down the park for a kick.

If you look at countries like Spain, Italy, Argentina and Brazil you see kids kicking the ball wherever there is space.

I never saw anyone kicking a ball around in the park in my time over in England.

Surely that is now a bit redundant now. As part of the changes I think this should be removed.

Sadly there is plenty of truth in what you’ve said.

I grew up near a huge park, on which were four or five full-size pitches. Everywhere there were lads playing football, and it was the same on every park where I grew up.

Suffice to say it’s not the same anymore.

Funnily enough, after the Ashes win in 2005, there was an explosion of kids all over the place playing cricket in parks.

                          That didn’t last long.

Although the point raised by dww about the rubbish weather over here preventing ball work etc….although that point sounds pretty pathetic, I reckon there’s a lot of truth in that.

I think Pennant is one of the more technically gifted English players around - his ability to control a ball passed to him while on the move, for example, is remarkable compared to most home-grown players.
