I think with their current team they should qualify for the world cup and actually get out of the group stages for once.

Which would be an historical achievement for Scottish football.

Better than scratching around the lower reaches of the premiership.

      Ah, cheers.

Interesting take on the word "special" but it's all relative I suppose.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I wouldn't swap that to manage a mediocre Premiership side that will only offer me a relegation battle.

Obviously your point about day to day involvement is an important one and may have weighed on McLeish's mind but he has blown a big opportunity IMO as Scotland have a great chance of qualifying for the next world cup with their current squad.

In terms of legacy would you rather be the manager who led Scotland to the 2010 World Cup or the manager who got Birmingham relegated. Plus if (and it's a big if I know) he hung on in the Scottish job for another couple of years and got them to the world cup he'd have a much better calibre of club after him than Birmingham.
I think that in some ways either job represents a bigger risk than opportunity for him at the minute. Scotland have the potential to do very well but as with all smaller nations a few injuries to key players or other bits of misfortune and you fail to qualify again and all the promise goes (for example look at how crap England have been of late). Whereas as you say there is every chance Brum will go down. Although if you are a half decent manager I think you would back yourself to survive this year with Derby all but down and a lot of teams in the same position points and squad wise near the bottom of the table.

Personally I think the braver decision would have been to opt for the biggest possible potential glory with Scotland. I just see that a day to day club job would be an attractive option too.

Well, it'd be special by their standards, given they have never gotten out of the group stages of a major tournament.

I was hardly suggesting they were going to go and win the thing.

                        Exactly.

                        What's 3 more years?

And if he did manage the unthinkable, and got us qualified, he'd certainly get a better club than bloody nothing Brum offering him a gig.

                        Hope they get ****ing relegated.

Why leave a job your doing well, get paid well for and doesnt require daily work? Complete ****. Birmingham city. ffs. To think i sent a bottle of wine to his table for him and his wife. I want me money back. ****in idiot

They better get the right replacement. Gary Mac would be ideal

                            Not enough management experience.

Jim Jeffries is being mentioned quite a lot. He'd be a decent appointment.
