Sadly inevitable. It’s been one unsuccessful free transfer after another for him lately.
A good player who, IMO, never fully realised his potential. I remember, after beating Sheffield Wednesday 4-1, having a debate with some mates over who had the most potential – Thompson or Gerrard. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Gerrard, 3-1.
The lad who thought Thompson was better I’ve mentioned on here before – he reckons Carson is better than Reina, reckons Voronin is our best striker amd chanted Benitez out at Blackburn.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

When they both broke through from the academy I did think that Thompson was a better player to have in the team - he was a nippy little ankle biter with a good shot on him.
But once Gerrard got a bit bigger and stronger you quickly saw he was going to equal Keane and Viera.
I've got some vague memories of Thommo coming on as a sub at Woodison and immediately executing a fantastically horrendous tackle!

shame - he had the potential and loved getting stuck in and i thought it was wrong to sell him at a time when our midfield could be a bit limp in the tackle - i always prefered him over danny murphy.
Random bit of trivia - he lived not far from me and his brother used to work for my dad. They had a company football match for charity - office/sales/managers vs factory/shop floor staff - although i don't remember much about it, i came on for about 5 mins when i was about 9/10 so i could play on the same pitch/game as my dad - apparently david thompson was also playing as his brother brought him along. - So i once played against david thompson, good lad
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do
