"If Alan decides...." Sums it up, Alan Shearer has been a liability for Newcastle in recent years IMO.

Allardyce fans must read!
This guy is absolutely delusional!
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has told his players 'I know best' as he continues to dampen speculation about unrest amongst the Magpies squad.
Allardyce has had to respond to reports that a delegation of three senior Newcastle United players sought a meeting with Allardyce to express their concerns following the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.
But he insists there is nothing strained or out of the ordinary in his dealings with the side, who have endured a difficult season thus far with just 18 points from 14 outings.
He told the Daily Mail: "Players are not happy about a lot of the stuff I do, because they're players and I'm the manager. I'm the man who knows what's right for them and I know it more than they do.
"When you're having a bad time there are always elements trying to make a big deal of things. Today's politically correct society believes that's a disruption, but that's an everyday occurrence as a manager.''
The former Bolton boss also hopes to be in the St James' Park hot seat for a long time and leave the club in a good position for his eventual successor.
He left Wanderers in the UEFA Cup last term and would like to build a similar legacy with Newcastle, who many believe could end up in the control of former captain Alan Shearer, who has also been tipped as an outsider for the England job.
Allardyce continued: "If Alan decides to take my job, I hope it will be when I have decided to leave because I've made the club successful.
"Then he will be taking over a club that I've improved significantly, like what happened with Sammy Lee and Bolton. If it's the other way, you have to live with it.''

I'm surprised he's not been able to sort out the defence - and at the moment you'd have to say whoever/whatever they do in the central defensive area is appalling - only Spurs with Kaboul seem to making as many mistakes as them.
I can see him getting sacked by Christmas if he doesn't start to turn it around.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Slight change of subject but I really was impressed with Kaboul at the start of the season, thought he was a great signing for them, but it seems his confidence has since been shattered - looks distinctly Bramble-like now...Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostI'm surprised he's not been able to sort out the defence - and at the moment you'd have to say whoever/whatever they do in the central defensive area is appalling - only Spurs with Kaboul seem to making as many mistakes as them.

I think he knew that they needed a leader and bought in Cacapa to do that. Unfortunately he has been playing while unfit and it has shown. Given is not a good commander of a defence either which IMO is why Alladyce has given Harper a number of games ahead of him this season.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostI'm surprised he's not been able to sort out the defence - and at the moment you'd have to say whoever/whatever they do in the central defensive area is appalling - only Spurs with Kaboul seem to making as many mistakes as them.

He also made a bad decision in isolating Taylor when he didn't sign a new contract. He is one of their better defenders and without him they struggled and he is now not likely to fight for his manager.
I think given time he would get Newcastle back on the right track but he needs to be given the oportunity to instil his beliefs in the team and to get in the right players. He effectively tried to buy in an entire new defence which was always a high risk strategy."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

More than a little risk attached to most of their summer signings - only Viduka and Geremi, and to a lesser extent Smith and Barton were potentially good purchases. The rest, IMO, scream HIGH RISK.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1
