Winger Florent Malouda has launched an unprovoked attack on Chelsea, criticising the club's dietary control, training sessions and his team-mates' playing mindsets.

Malouda joined the club in a £13 million move from Lyon in the summer but is finding adjusting to life at Stamford Bridge and London difficult.

Out in the open: Malouda airs his thoughts on life at Chelsea

The physicality of Chelsea's day-to-day routine on the training ground has caught the France international by surprise and he said: "Training sessions here are terrifying. They are just like matches and you go flat out."

Yet Malouda feels many of his team-mates take that same approach into match days. He said: "During the actual games it is as though everybody's brains are switched off.

"People play by instinct, spontaneously, in the way they did when they first discovered football."

While the 27-year-old has questioned the club's training sessions, he has also been shocked by the eating habits at Stamford Bridge and is grateful that he did not move to the club sooner.

"The people at Chelsea don't control what the players eat. You can help yourself to whatever you like, drink Coke or anything," he said.

"It is a good job I have come over here at the age of 27 and so haven't been following the same diet as the rest of the club's players."

Malouda is currently sidelined with knee ligament damage he suffered on Champions League duty against Schalke four weeks ago.

During that time Avram Grant's side have won three and drawn one match to move up the Premier League table.

Chelsea will hope to have Malouda available for the busy Christmas period which sees the club face three matches in the space of nine days against Blackburn, Aston Villa and Newcastle.

But Malouda said: "I have been warned about the Christmas periods in English football. They sound terrible."

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
          Mine angry and defrauded young?

Just read the interview on BBC Sport. What a gimp - he must be a popular figure down at the Bridge. So glad he's not at Anfield.

He seems highly rated on here.

He started well but he's done **** all in the last few months IMO. Glad we never got him.

Don't like him coming out with this, but I think he would have done a good job for us, well suited to our tactics IMO. Direct and tactical player I think, and judging by the diet comment would have clicked with Rafa.

Yeah but his crossing is only 13 – we need better than that.
