All this talk of Capello being the english manager and a foreigner its all a bit....

...Hypocritical for god’s sake England’s "top 4" teams are managed by foreigners and have been for many years and probably will be for many more.

If the owners chairman’s of these 4 clubs haven’t got the trust in English managers how can they go along and tell the FA to get an English man.

They have got the best out their to be manager would they ever just shut up and support him and stop cribbing on about his nationality

Who gives a **** if he is English or not. He is a ****ing good manager with a proven record.

The FA should be congratulated for once. He can impart some knowledge onto other Englishmen like Stuart Pearce or Tony Adams etc.

They've got as good a manager as they possibly could. Yet the guy basically had to beg for the job while the FA were chasing after Mourinho who patently had no intention of ever taking the job.

To be honest though the league and the national team are completely different. The national team is by definition supposed to be a representation of a nations talents. As such it is a shame that we cannot produce a single world class coach/manager suitable to take the role of England manager. I'm not quite sure why people think that there is a problem wanting an English manager of England - no one is arguing that we should be able to play any player of any nationality if they play/live in this country.

On the other hand I think Capello was the best choice - at least in the short term. I think the key is what they do about development and improving coaching in this country around him.

I'm not sure criticising the FA for talking to more than one candidate is fair either. Capello was out of a job and as long as they were in contact with him at the initial stages, which Trevor Brooking says they were, I think that the right thing to do was consult more than one person as they have to actually look to someone who is more than a good coach but is someone who has ideas that others can learn from and who is willing to teach people.

As it is the size of the staff he is bringing implies that from this angle Capello may not be the ideal choice but time will tell.

One thing i'm noticing from this press conference is that he is being reffered to as the England Manager, whereas McLaren was always the England Head Coach. There's a big difference there in my eyes
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

With the exception of Beckham he's never had an Englishman in any of his teams.

                Wonder why.

I have to say that in the last few days the whinging by English coaches and the LMA has got a bit dull. They talk about feeling cheated and never once do they talk of trying to improve standards or going abroad to learn or anything. They really do make a rod for their own back.

Generally the way for and English manager to move up to a top team would be to qualify for and then get to the final at least of the UEFA cup. That is the level of achievement they need to set themselves. That has become more difficult this season with the no. of teams with the money to challenge has increased. However it will show whether the likes of Curbishley is good enough to challenge at the next managerial level.

Presumably because most English players are unwilling to go abroad as it involves 'learning foreign' and even those that are willing are generally over priced compared to continental alternatives.

What about the England teams that have non-English players, let alone managers! It's ok when it suits the media

Allan Lamb, Mike Catt, Owen Hargreaves, Matt Stevens...
