In this day and age, he'd have to be pretty close to the best player ever to pull of it.

Not the case in the early/mid nineties.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Cantona was a footballing genius. An incredibly talented player.

Who was left out of the French team because of a true genius, Zidane.

Cantona quit the french team after falling out with the French Federation. Nothing to do with his talent. He was always up for a fight with them.

I hated him when he played for United but he was a genius, no doubt. Didn't have pace but his reading of the game and his technical ability was of the highest order, probably better than Zidane. He never had Zidane's athleticism too, but he read the game much more quickly.

              Couldn't disagree with you more.

He didn't have a tenth of the class Zidane had. Cantona was bog standard compared to Zidane

Would you measure it with a device ?

The only device I'd use is my eyes, try it

In the Kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is King.

Stoichkov, Hagi, Baggio, Romario, Savicevic, Redondo, Boban, Bergkamp, Laudrup all earned their stripes winning major honours for clubs from the strongest leagues.

                          Cantona did not.

Well, he did win numerous league titles with United !!

Don't let the fact that he was a manc, cloud your judgment. He was a great player. Ask any manure fan and they'd tell you he was probably the greatest for them. That's quite a statement.
