He was a manc, so I guess that your opinion is level headed.

I was talking about football, not about anything else. :whatever:

Is it fair to say that if Cantona wasn't world class then nor was digger?

My point isn't to open the discussion into was-Barnsey-world-class-or-not. It is purely to try to contextualise the Utd fans view of Cantona.
It's a very interesting point. I think using the term world class is always a problem in these discussions.

IMO Cantona was the perfect player for United at that time. He was probably capable of more than he showed in Europe but he was less exceptional in his style and technique in that environment than he was in the PL of the time. I think part of the problem was that the United team around him failed to take the pressure off him in Europe - expecting him to be able to do what he did for them in the league.

In the end you can only judge people on what they actually produce, everything else is speculation.

Fredo, in a purely subjective but well backed with strong circumstantial evidence of actual achievement way, you are more than wrong about the Zidane/Cantona comparison.

Zidane won European Cups and World cups, on that alone I won't dispute that fact.

But that doesn't make my point as being ****e, as it's a purely subjective thing. I see more genius in the way Cantona played, rather than the pure technical brilliance of Zidane. His technique made it look easy.

Cantona, for his part was an instinctive genius, who could do anything. He had pace, technique, creative genius and goalscoring touch. But I guess, his flawed character hampered his capabilities on the whole. That is why he never played for France (after criticizing the FFF) and got in arguments with many France journos, who didn't like him. He was more at ease with the English press.

Cantona at his best vs Zidane at his best, there isn't much between them, IMO but Zidane was more consistent and backed that talent with World and European cups. On that alone I won't be able to back my case.

But I know who I prefer, as a footballer and as a character. You never knew what to expect with Cantona.

You meant confusing, as I'm in harmony with myself.

Anyway, please care to explain why ?
