Fredo, I think it's mostly to do with the fact that you are the only person most of us have ever encountered that actually thinks Cantona is fit to wipe Zidane's back side let alone be comparable to him in anyway on the football pitch

I know you keep talking about opinions and that's fine, everyone has a right to them but this isn't comparing Mascherano to Hamman at his best here, it's comparing one of the true world greats to Cantona...a player the world has forgotten about. Zidane, Maradona, Pele, Beckenbauer, Best, Dalglish, Platini, Cruyff etc on the other hand will never be forgotten because they were and still are true greats of the game.

I think you let your hate for the manc cloud your judgment. As ever, I'm neutral and can see things that all of you won't ever see.

        Of course.

It is my subjective opinion that you are very confused and nothing you can say or do, however rational, logical or measured, will ever change my mind.

It is my opinion that you are confused and that's that.

It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

By confused, that would mean me 'flip flopping' between opinions, which is clear, I'm not. I'm staunchly and unequivocably saying that Cantona was the equal of Zidane in terms of talent.

It's just my opinion and nobody won't ever make me change my mind.

That's really not true. You keep using that as an excuse. There wasn't a player on this planet (apart from Gary Neville) that I hated more than Roy Keane but he was an absolutely awesome player...in fact one of the greatest I've ever seen. He was probably the closest player to come to the level of Souness who was arguably the best central midfielder Britain has ever seen. Keane to me (as well as many many Mancs) was a greater United player than Cantona.

Then there's Giggs....was Cantona a greater player than Giggs? No chance.

Why do you think I stopped trying?

Because I haven't seen anyone beat me in an argument anywhere.

Am sick or arguing though, I should be doing things more constructive.

And if you always use your deus ex machina "it's a matter of opinion", you never will lose an argument, Fredo.

I hated him when he played for United but he was a genius, no doubt. Didn't have pace but his reading of the game and his technical ability was of the highest order, probably better than Zidane. He never had Zidane's athleticism too, but he read the game much more quickly.

Personally, I think he was the most over-rated primadonna of all.

I won't deny he was a good player, at one time the most influential player in England and arguably the best player in the Premiership. But he played in an era when the Premiership was still young and only the 5th strongest league in Europe at best, behind Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

So while Cantona was inspiring Manchester United to domestic glory and dominance, his team were being shown up by the likes of IFK Gothenburg and Galatasaray in the Champions League. It wasn't until the 96/97 season that the Scum carried any threat in Europe at all and even then then they defeated in the semi-final by Borussia Dortmund.

At the end of that season, Cantona retired and confirmed for me that his name is not worthy of being mentioned alongside the genuine heroes of his era such as Savicevic, Litmanen, Del Piero, Bergkamp and Moller.
Totally agree, I have been corrected a few times by people for suggesting what was posted. He never even achieved anything internationally with France, consistantly being over looked. So he scored a few goals and pulled his collar up. I would say there are thee players in the current United side that are more tallented.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
