MANCHESTER United player Jonny Evans has been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a woman at a team Christmas party at a Manchester hotel.
Evans, 19, was being held in custody.
He went to police after flying back into Manchester following a day-trip to Monaco.
British police say a 19-year-old man has been arrested over the allegation, but have not named him.
The alleged assault occurred at the Great John Street Hotel in Manchester.
Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of rape last night after presenting himself for questioning.
He remains in custody.
"Police are currently investigating a report of rape at a hotel in Manchester city centre," police said.
Early yesterday, police were called to the hotel on Great John Street to a report that a 26-year-old woman had been raped.
