Says here the Dabo trial is June 30th - and the reason given was his football career. I imagine the fact he couldn't be bailed for this alleged offense will mean that this trial will have to happen sooner - whether that will affect the other I have no idea.

This current charge I think can be dealt with in the magistrates court which means it can be dealt with sooner, but has limited sentences that can be imposed

The Dabo case is in the crown court, which takes longer but has more latitude in sentencing

Obviously the Dabo case cannot be brought into this new case ( assuming he is tried next week), because as pointed out above he has not been convicted of anything yet

But if he were to be convicted on this new charge, that could be brought into the Dabo case even if they are chronologically out of order

I can't understand why he is allowed to run around on a pitch and earn £45k/week.

The assault on Dabo is a clear cut case. He should be behind bars and not earn £45/week. That really is a joke.

If this article is accurate, the scary thing is he got a pay rise of £20k/week going to Newcastle.

It suggests he was fined 4 weeks wages for the assault = £100k. So Man city got shut quickly, and Newcastle gave him an 80% pay rise. That's the real joke that clubs are prepared to do this sort of thing. IMHO

Like I've already said, Barton could be guilty on both counts but you cannot assume he is guilty just because of what you've read. The picture of Dabo looks bad but were you there? Did you see Barton assault him? Do you know for sure that Barton started the fight with Dabo? Saying "several of his former team mates saw him kick the **** out of Dabo" is circumstantial.

Unless a court of law proves beyond reasonable doubt that Barton is guilty then you cannot make wild claims saying he must have done it no matter what a brainless prick he appears to be. The whole democratic justice system would fall apart if we automatically assume anyone is guilty because "it looks bad" or "he's done it before".

The thing is, his defence team's standpoint is that he was provoked into his actions. So, he has really already admitted committing the act but is using the provocation angle to lessen the consequences.

Whether he'll plead guilty is another matter though.

Another question is whether he'll get the same punishment as the average person. I get the impression most people would get off with a suspended sentence or community service for a bit of a punch up.... wouldn't surprise me if the judge wants to make for a name for himself and puts him in jail.
