Agüero: I Feel At Home With Atletico Atletico Madrid striker Sergio "Kun" Aguero feels that he's fitting in famously at the Vicente Calderon, and that his adaptation to European life is going just as smoothly...
In an interview with Marca, Sergio "Kun" Aguero defended his new release clause of 55 million euros by declaring himself delighted with life at the Vicente Calderon.
"I'm delighted with this agreement," said the Atletico dtriker.
"Ever since I arrived, Atleti have been very good to me and my family. The truth is, I feel at home. The fans are like those in Argentina and that helped my arrival be that much easier.
"Atletico has great players and an international reputation, and I want to stay here for many years to help the club achieve something big."
Initially there were fears that the Aguero, who signed for Atleti shortly before his 18th birthday, would struggle to adapt to Madrid, but he has done so in some style.
"Everything's going well - I've fitted in quickly to the Spanish league, the quad and this city," said the ex-Independiente man.
"I owe my growth to the club, because they helped me make my adaptation quick and easy, but it's thanks to the squad that my performances have improved.
"Playing alongside Diego Forlan, Simao, Maxi, Luis Garcia, Raul [Garcia]... has made everything easier. We have a pool of players with international experience that could play for any club, and we're motivated and united.
"We're young people with great ambition to grow, and we're all looking at the same objectives."
Another Atleti youngster, Fernando Torres, is currently thriving at Liverpool, which some say is partially down to not being under pressure from Atleti fans to be the club's big idol.
That responsibility may now fall on Kun's shoulders - but he couldn't be happier.
He said: "Pressure? How can I feel pressure when I'm doing what I love? From an early age, football's been my passion, and now that I'm here I will do what I love and continue to learn from it.
"But hearing the support sing your name is very nice. Hopefully we can give the fans a 2008 to savour.
"We understand that our mission is to secure a place in the Champions League, so we need to try to press for the top positions.
"My dream would be to have a chance to win the title with four games left to go, but we must be humble and go match to match. Ideally we should win a title, and we have three competitions in which to do so."
Internationally, the 19-year-old is already a full Argentine international.
"Debuting for the albiceleste is a source of pride for any footballer," he said.
"There is no young player who does not dream of reaching this zenith.
"I'm so proud of doing something for my country with a team that not so long ago I only saw on TV. All of Argentina grinds to a halt to see the selección play.
"Now that I've made my debut, I just need to keep working to be in future call-ups. I want to become a regular."
