    Relegation battlers select XI

If you had to pick and XI from the clubs below Spurs in the league (Derby, Fulham, Wigan, Sunderland, Birmingham, Middlesborough, Bolton & Reading) who would you plump for, my team is:

    ----------------Anelka - Kitson
    Downing - O'Neil - Harper - Hunt
    Shorey--Woodgate--Meite---Kelly
    -------------------Gordon

    ----------------Anelka - Kitson
    -------Kapo - O'Neill - Murphy - Barnes
    ------Shorey--Woodgate--Meite---Taylor
    -------------------Gordon

Subs : Jaaskaleinen, Scharner, Hunt, K.Jones, Heskey

Unlucky to miss out Julio Arca and Kevin Doyle.

My centre-midfield doesn't have much steel but **** it, it's not real.

That was the reason I left Murphy out of my team. His is probably a better player than either of the two in the middle of my team but none of the teams I allowed had a half decent defensive midfielder so I thought my pairing had better balance.

You have a very attacking bench too.

Well Scharner can play pretty much anywhere across the back and so offers defensive as well as midfield cover.

I'm assuming it's a home game, which is why I've gone for two strikers on the bench. If it's away, out goes Kenwyne Jones and in comes Julio Arca.

As for my centre-mid pairing, I will be asking Gary O'Neil to sit tight and hold, while Murphy does his thing.

We can make it an attacking 4-3-3 in possession of the football with Kapo pushing up and tucking in alongside Anelka and Kitson, and Giles Barnes coming inside from his right-sided station, as is his wont, to form a central three.

I'm mostly pleased that you appear to be backing me with my call for Kitson.

I think Kitson's class mate. I saw him play at Saltergate many years ago - came on as a sub for Cambridge United - and he was excellent. Looked like a beanpole but stood out a mile talent-wise. As a result I've kept a close eye on his progress, and his development has really pleased me. Good player...very good player. And a nice bloke, seemingly.

And yes, Jamo. I've got all the time in the world - absolutely nothing to do.

I saw his debut at United and have followed him since. He has impressed me with how much better his heading is now - he always had the skills with the ball at his feet.

                  Yeah you're a Cambridge lad aren't you.

I'd be intrigued to see if he could handle a step-up. Not a top 4 club but someone like West Ham or Spurs. I suspect he's about found his level but I do like him a lot. Great finisher and a clever player.

                    Indeed I am.

I think he would make it easily to a team in that part of the league if the system suited him. I think of the UEFA chasers he would do well at Villa or West Ham and probably his work rate would improve Spurs in some games.
