Spurs close on £8m Hutton switch

Spurs close on £8m Hutton switch

Rangers and Tottenham are in talks over the transfer of Alan Hutton to the English Premier League club.

BBC Scotland understands that a fee of about £8m could secure the sale of the Scottish international right-back.

Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who signed a five-year deal in July and has been in superb form this season.

Hutton received praise from Sir Alex Ferguson following his performances in Scotland's Euro 2008 campaign.

Speaking last month, Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist urged Hutton to remain at Ibrox.

"I'd like him to stay here for a long time and win things with Rangers," McCoist said.

"I have no doubt Alan is destined for great things but I believe those great things can be with Rangers."

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

    Blimey O'Reilly.

Everyone raves about this lad but I've seen him 2 or 3 times in the CL this season and he's not been great.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I've watched him a few times myself Shaggy and tbh i thought he was bloody brilliant every time. Watched him a couple of times for Scotland and once for Rangers. Very impressed.

He was great against Barca then against Lyon he got ripped apart. I've read that last season he was so bad that Philip Bardsley kept him out of the team and he constantly got **** off their fans when he did play, must have improved a lot though.

          Is right.

Good athelete, get's up and down the flank like that Alves fella at Sevilla.

But his final ball is in the same league as Jermaine Pennant's.

And haven't Spurs signed that young lad from Cardiff?

Gunther....Yeah they have signed him. He can play left & right back though, I think they are buying as he seems to have less injury problems than Bale.

Saying that a Spurs mate at work reckons Chimbonda is on his way in the window so that could explain the Hutton bid.

Probably the most impressive improvement from a player i've seen in a year... EVER!

That said he was truly terrible a year ago so it's not that impressive a statement. I'm not surprised he's leaving Rangers, but 5-6m is more appropriate.

He's turned from a punt and run full-back to one of genuine ability-he's still prone to losing the plot though against WUMs... I wouldn't be surprised if he struggled at spurs, like the rest of their signings.

Rangers defender Alan Hutton has turned down a potential move to Tottenham.

Spurs were reported to have made an £8million bid for the right-back, who has impressed for Rangers in this season's UEFA Champions League.

Rangers officials and the player's agent, John Lonergan, had declined to comment on claims the two clubs had reached an agreement for the 23-year-old.

However, Hutton - who is also rumoured to have attracted interest from Manchester United - is understood to not be interested in a move.

Hutton, who has made seven appearances for Scotland, is reported to have pulled out of the move because he is happy at Ibrox.

Thats the way id sum him up i watched the Lyon game and he would get up and down the pitch all day but he couldnt cross a ball to save his life.

Id be surprised if he left Rangers its his boyhood club and has only really started playing for them and to play for your boyhood club is a dream and i wonder if he'll give up that dream for a money spinner down south

He's improved since he left Barry The Ned's gang of Gers boozers. Still needs to improve though
