    ZZ rejected by Spurs?

    Zidane: Rejected by Spurs?

One of football's great myths is that three-time World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane was rejected as a teenager by Tottenham.

The World Cup winner, who played for Real Madrid and Juventus, was supposedly branded 'too wooden' by Gerry Francis.

But when Zidane was asked about his widely-discussed trial in north London this week, ZZ looked baffled and spluttered "who?".

His translator apologised and explained: "I don't think he has heard of Tottenham Hotspur."

My Spurs supporting mate never shuts up about this.

Apparently Zidane was offered to Spurs, but was rejected because according to Gerry Francis he was, "too wooden".

      Ha Ha!

How did Zidane never end up at Liverpool? I thought he had a house in the city and that Houllier was godfather to one of his kids

Is the right answer. At least it's what i'd heard also.

Gerry Francis should stick to antiques.

Every bit as good as his namesake Trevor who turned down Cantona when at Sheffield Wednesday as he didn't think he had the attributes to make it at the top level

In fairness, we've missed the boat on a few players like this in the past.
