Tottenham increase offer for Rangers Alan Hutton

Rangers and Scotland full-back Alan Hutton could still be on his way to Tottenham, BBC Scotland understands.

The 23-year-old last week rejected the chance to join the English Premier League club after Rangers accepted an offer in the region of £8m.

But BBC Scotland has learned that Spurs have offered Hutton improved personal terms and that the defender is considering his options.

Rangers manager Walter Smith said he expected Hutton to remain at Ibrox.

Hutton signed a new five-year deal in July, and has been outstanding for club and country this season.

Spurs manager Juande Ramos is keen to add to his squad at White Hart Lane, but Smith said he was unaware of a second bid for Hutton.

"I don't know what's happening. There are so many reports flying around," Smith told BBC Scotland's Sportsound.

"As far as I'm aware, Spurs haven't made an increased bid for Alan Hutton.

"Where the player is, with his situation, is fairly straightforward to me.

"He turned down Tottenham, said he wanted to stay at Rangers and as far as I'm aware he's still a Rangers player and will report to training on Wednesday morning."

Rangers want the money, it's obvious.

After missing out on the Last 16 in the CL they`ll need it.
