Funderland make an improved offer of 4.5 million for Stephen Hunt
To be honest you have to pay £3m+ for almost anyone from a rival PL team if they want to get hold of them. It seems decent value for Sunderland to me - the difference Kieran Richardson made when he came back from injury to what was for me the least enjoyable team in the league (possibly bar Derby) to watch was remarkable. Simply adding width on both sides will do wonders for their team IMO and they need someone to hit the ground running.
I think unlike some of his purchases it would make a lot of sense and he will have to pay a premium for almost anyone in this window IMO. If they want to survive they simply have to make this sort of move.

Any transfer within England during the Jan transfer window is going to be at an inflated price because the selling club takes advantage of the buyer's need for that player.
Reading look a much more solid bet to stay in the Premiership than Sunderland.
Having spent the last few years trying to establish himself the last thing a late bloomer like Hunt needs is to go straight back down to the championship.

That's true. Especially as Coppell has known him since they were both at Crystal Palace and was the one responcible for giving him a chance when he went to Reading. However as seems to always be the case in these situations money often tips the scales in the favour of stupidity and ingratitute.

Personally I'd be very surprised if he moved.
A lot of reporting in the Irish media indicates that Hunt is using Sunderland's interest to get a bigger contract from Reading. He wants to be on par with Reading's top earner which is supposedly Kevin Doyle on £30K per week.
Think of him as a person though, realistically what wages will he be getting at Reading? £5k a week?!? I'd be surprised if it's more than that; while you can imagine Sunderland offering him £20k a week. Whatever the actual figures are, I'm betting Sunderland are offering him a huge increase in Salary.

Well according to reports in the Irish media he's pushing for a new salary at Reading that would put him on £30K a week.
