Newcastle make Wise approach!!

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise will be offered a role as Newcastle's director of football, BBC Leeds understands.

A Leeds spokesperson would only confirm that Wise will be in charge of the team for Tuesday's game at Southend.

Wise, 41, who played for England under Keegan, has guided Leeds into play-off contention in League One despite them starting the season on minus 15 points.

That penalty followed their going into administration and being relegated, and money remains tight at Elland Road.

This is the most baffling of decisions, I don't understand at all. Maybe they want to regain there status of laughing stock of football after we briefly stole their mantle.

If true then he would have to be in essence Keegans long term replacement. With Keegan basically there as a figure head and for motivational purposes. Wise might even run the training - effectively an assistant but without the apparent demotion in job title.

The idea of bringing in someone to work with Keegan who has been working in football for the last few years seems sensible. Dennis Wise is also friends with Vialli who has one of the best contact books in the business. I heard an interview with Gabriel Marcotti about the book he did with Vialli and he basically said that all the best managers were really happy to talk to Vialli and his name basically opened all the right doors. I wouldn't under estimate that as a factor in his recruitment.

As far as I can tell he likes not having to work day to day and is enjoying his retirement. At least that was the impression I got from the Marcotti interview (it was with a London radio station - I can't even remember which let alone when).
