Gary Mac to take over at Leeds?

Gary McAllister is reportedly in talks to return to Leeds United as Dennis Wise's replacement.

Wise has quit as manager of the League One club in order to take up the role of executive director at Newcastle United.

Leeds chairman Ken Bates is keen to make a swift appointment and McAllister has emerged as the red-hot favourite for the job.

Reports suggest that the former Whites captain is holding talks with Bates on Tuesday with a view to succeeding Wise.

McAllister spent six years as a player at Elland Road in the 1990s and made almost 300 appearances for the club.

He won the old First Division title with Leeds in 1992 before joining Coventry City in a £3million deal in 1996.

The ex-Scotland international later turned out for Liverpool before finishing his playing career back at Coventry.

The 43-year-old was also manager of the Sky Blues for 18 months before leaving the Championship club in December 2003.

That is his only managerial role to date, but it appears as though McAllister is on his way back to Leeds where he remains a popular figure.

Contrary to popular belief, I have huge genitals.

Good luck to Gary Mac in whatever he does.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Indeed, best of luck to him. Might make me hate Leeds a little less. But only a little.

Spot on Slim. Leeds don't deserve someone like Gary Mac.

Question - why does everyone hate Leeds? Don't think I've ever really understood that one. Is it something that goes back decades?

It's a 70s thing really. I'm too young to remember () but the Leeds team of the 70s were successful and had good skillful players............and a load of dirty cynical *******s. Plus Don Revie was accused of being obsessed by money and there were rumours he had offered bribes to fix matches.

And their fans are right scumbags.

Good article here on Revie from The Observer Sport Monthly might help to explain it.

                          Yup.

Because they are dirty, horrible *******s. I'd say, outside United, they're the most hated club in the country. Their fans are pure scum.

                          Everybody hates Leeds.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Fair enough, probably about 10 years before my time then. The Leeds fans I know are sound though.

I worked in the big Wetherspoons in Leeds when I was at uni and it was always a favourite of the knuckle-dragger brigade before a home match. They came in their swarms for the £1.19 bottles of Becks I think

There were riot vans parked outside every game, double the door staff of a Saturday night and it did kick off a few times which I have to say was quite exciting when you're watching from the relative safety of behind the bar.
