    Wasn't it that we had a bid, Sporting were going to accept, then Man Utd came in at the '11th hour' and mid something 3-4m more than us and the rest is history.

      according to thompson sporting where dying to get rid of him and a price of 4 mil had been agreed, next thing he knew is that utd played a pre-season game against them where he was brilliant and a fee between utd and sporting was agreed of 12 mil. i remember thomo telling he spat his tea out when heard the news...

              almost three times our bid actually, but the funniest thing is that we didn't know our bid had been rejected when utd announced that they had bought him. would it have made any difference though, wouldn't Ged have ruined him anyways

                We should have got his name on the contract before the Man U game. Very stupid to wait when you know that they would play United a few days later.

                We should have pressured him to sign and not given up before he had done that.
                Just believe and you never know what will happen.

                According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

                  Hindsight is wonderful. However I'm sure Houllier would have turned him into a decent left back or something if he did sign.

                    thing is though that according to thommo, they where in no rush as sporting where dying to get rid of him and where flogging him of but there weren't any takers, and the negotiation not over and they weren't really hurrying cause there wasn't anyone really interested. untill the ****ing mancs came to town

                      This guy is on fire and has been for ages, its not flash in the pan.

                      Consistently the best player on the pitch. We don't have anyone that can compare to him unfortunately.

                          Typical Parry with his CRAP negotiation skills, Gazumped as per usual.

                          On a side note under the defensive minded Houllier and Rafa do you think he would have been given the opportunities like what he has at Man Yoo and do you think he would have developed in to the player he is now, i would argue NO.

                                Possibly in the world. He is consistently scoring goals and for a winger to score 19 goals in the league with 1/4 of the season left, is extremely good.
