We've just had a bid rejected for Sulley Muntari and are expected to go back in with an offer of cash + player within the hour (the player is rumoured to be Voronin as a replacement for Benjani, so him signing for Man City is key to this one.)

Rafa was confident of signing Mascherano on a permanent deal by the end of today - everything seems suspiciously quiet on that front....

so Muntari could be on his way out, he'd give us quite a boost.

I thought someone from the club pointed out that as we have his registration we don't need to worry about the transfer deadline.

Why would the signing of a striker mean they would let a CM go?

He plays as the attacking midfielder, joining in as the 2nd striker from wide areas.

                        Few strange ones....

                        2106: RANGERS in/FULHAM out
Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis has signed for SPL leaders Rangers on loan until the end of the season. That's the best I can do.

2028: News from League One/Two now and I'm going to have to be careful what I say because I'm not best pleased. Neil Lennon, who a year ago was good enough to captain Celtic in the last 16 of the Champions League, is deemed surplus to requirements at Nottingham Forest and has joined Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer.

2126: "My mate Tom was on his paper round earlier and went past the Reebok Stadium as part of his route. He swears he saw Peter Crouch walk into the door frame on his way into the main reception with Gary Megson and Phil Gartside. Watch this space."

Mate, space-watching is just about all I'm doing. Though I'm amused at the thought of Peter Crouch walking into a door frame.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Just one problem with that, "JD" - surely if you really were Jermain Defoe, you'd know there is no 'e' on the end of his first name. Gutted.
