    Michael Owen

    Bit fat getting?

Great goal today though, top class header.

He hasn't got the pace anymore so he might as well bulk up and he is getting older.

I watched Michael quite closely today and he looks as if playing football is a ruddy pain in the arse for him. Just doesn't seem happy.

      Great header though, aye.

Yeah that's probably it, i watched that doc of him on sky one when he was training to get back from one of his serious injuries and he was in the gym every day pumping iron to bulk up. Think he's put on over a stone or something in muscle.
Still though he looks weird compared to the skinny 18 year old that we used to see every match.

Aye he doesn't look a happy bunny, maybe he doesn't like being captain and is feeling the pressure or maybe he's pissed off with the **** team he's playing for.
Could be just fed up with football in general, who knows.

Yep, stone in muscle is probably correct. I heard Glenn Roeder say something similar.

he is more interested in his horses and **** now - he pretty much said so in his sky one docu - soemthing along the lines that horses are his passion and his ambition is for onw of his horses to be rode by frankie dettori and to win the national or something - that docu pretty much summed him up - he hardly mentioned being a footballer or playing football throughout.

Wait 'til he gets back into a run with england, he'll be up for it then as that is his only real footballing passion.

I always hoped he would beat Charltons record, now it doesnt even seem he cares.
Shame really, he could have been 1 of our best ever players.

he's always struck me as one of those players that plays football because he's good at not because he loves it. he probably never watches it or has anything to do with it any longer than absolutely necessary. those are the players that retire early, whose careers die out long before they should

I could see him retiring at 30.

He's so slow now, same with Harry Kewell and Damien Duff, none are quick anymore and are miles away from what they were. Weird how times change, they were stars of the League 4 years ago and none are even that old now, it's just the injuries.

He'll get a few goals for someone each season still but he looks pretty much finished at the top level, it wouldn't surprise me if Capello looks to take another route either though Michael might get lucky in that theres not many other very good English strikers

Aye, plus I think Owen retains that knack and he's still a good finisher. Different sort of player these days.

Good point about Duff too. I was thinking the same on Sunday - a shadow of his former self.
