Never rated him, but I've always had it in for him since I had a blazing row in a bookies one day with some random Manc gob****e who said he was better than Hyypia and potentially the best centre-half in the world. This was about 2000/2001 ish...when Sami, alongside Desailly, was the best CB in the league.

Campbell and Stam were better at that time than the pair. Though at that stage Desailly was bottom out of the 4.

It is a good example for me to counter the idea most people have that if you aren't good enough at 21 you will never make it. This season is the first he has ever looked like a first team Man United player.
As Shaggy says he is not an ideal right back and is built like a CB but defensively that is an asset (particularly in the air) and he is athletic enough to run up and down the line to give a decent option. I've also been impressed with his crossing from deep this season - although maybe that is a case of selective memory.
