He suffered badly with injuries and I don't think did well in Italy with Inter but he was a great player.
He was absolutely sublime. There were rumours that we were in for him, and I desperately wanted us to sign him.

Rob Lee scored plenty of goals for Newcastle. Bit of David Platt character though - you'd wonder if he was playing and he'd pop up with a goal.

Going back much further there was the chrome-domed silky skilled Dutchman that was Johnny Metgod.

I think it was Metgod who scored the most amazing screamer you’ve ever seen. The term ‘rocket’ would do it an injustice. He ****ing LEATHERED it!!

          Remember it?

Oh yes! Wasn't he playing for Forest at the time? I was quite young at the time but it made a real impression on me - one of my earliest footballing memories.

He also took a mean free kick IIRC.

Yeah. I only ever remember him playing for Forest. Did he go to Spurs for a bit too?!

Might try and find that screamer later.

Yeah he was at Spurs too. My step-dad is a Spurs supporter and goes on about how great Metgod was all the time, but I think he was crap for them and sublime for Forest.

Allan McNally, a very underated player! Formerly of Celtic, Aston Villa & Bayern Munich now a pundit on Sky Sports...A monster of a forward. He's a legend in Germany, mention him to any German & they will rave about him!

Another one would be Hugo Sanchez in his Real Madrid hey days along Emilio Butragueno.
Dont think Real would ever had a better forward line than that, no disrepect to Raul, etc...

the di Stefano and Puskas forward line might be better though!

Think Puskas was a left midfielder though? Will I stand corrected, anyone?

He scored a remarkable 84 goals in 85 international matches for Hungary,[1] and 514 goals in 529 matches in the Hungarian and Spanish leagues. Says he was a forward on his Wiki entry.

**** me! Are you sure this is correct as it is phenomenal!
I would be a little sceptical of records from yesteryear...for example did Romario score 1000+ goals in his career or more to the point, did Pele?
Or was there 200k at the Maracana stadium when Brazil beat Italy 4-1 back in 1970?

Would I stand corrected again? Anyone?

From memory the Hungarian team used to play some crazy assed 4-2-4 formation though didn't they? So it is quite possible he played left of the 4 for them. I would imagine he classed as an inside left.
