    Arrogant little fecker...

Cristiano Ronaldo feels he is not given enough protection from referees and fears suffering a serious injury.

The United winger was denied a clear penalty against Portsmouth in the FA Cup quarter final defeat at Old Trafford. That incident, coupled with persistent fouling throughout the game, has heightened a long-felt opinion that the Portuguese winger is not protected by referees.

"It's very frustrating, the referee today was unbelievable," he told MUTV. "He didn't want to give the penalty, he didn't want to give yellow cards - sometimes I'm very disappointed.

"The refs don't protect the skilful players. I think about the Arsenal player (Eduardo) and I'm scared sometimes to do skills because some players do unbelievable fouls and the ref protects the defender, not the skilled player! It's very disappointing and I'm thinking a lot about changing my game because this is happening. When referees don't give penalties and don't give yellow cards or reds, it's difficult to play like that."

Sir Alex Ferguson was aghast that referee Martin Atkinson did not award a penalty for Sylvain Distin's bodycheck on Ronaldo in the seventh minute, as was Ronaldo.

"He (Distin) didn't try to take the ball," added Ronny. "He came straight to me. It's difficult to play football when this happens. It's a joke."

And it wasn't just refereeing decisions that disappointed the 22-year-old. His frustration of losing a tie United dominated was clearly evident.

"We lost today, everyone is disappointed because we were the best team," he said. "We created ten chances while Portsmouth created just one. It's frustrating to lose like that.

"We controlled the game all the time in the first half and the second half. But we didn't score. When you score, you win the games but we didn't score. I think we played well, we created many chances, Carrick had one cleared off the line, Patrice hit the post... this happens in football. We had a great chance to win the FA Cup but we need to think now about the Premier League and the Champions League. These are the priorities."
Because defending isnt a skill, is it? Cocky little ****.

He is smart enough to lift his feet in anticipation of a tackle. If he doesn't get the tackle he can fake it or drag his leg and get the free.

Hope he ****s off to Real Madrid the poncy prick.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

Just seen Ferguson' post match interview on The Beeb.

            BITTER

"Hackett has got a lot to answer for in this country," said the Scot. "He's not doing his job properly.

"He should be assessed like everyone else is assessed. I'm assessed as a manager, the players are assessed, referees are assessed.

"Martin Atkinson will referee next week, no problem, but his performance today should not be accepted in our game.

                Yeah your right Alex

Rooney should have been straight down the tunnel after this.

Didn't see that one though did you??

Exactly what I thought when I saw that lunge by Rooney. It was by far the worst tackle of the game. If he would have made contact will the Pompey player it could have been the same result as the Eduardo injury. And Carlos Quiroz then has the audacity to criticize Martin Taylor.

Well, the refs are not exactly any good. They must start to give a yellow/red for every tackle from behind and every time you go into a tackle showing your studs.

The problem is that the same ref can do it in one game and then not doing it in the next one.

It should be the same level week in week out in every game.

It's a difference between a fair tough tackle and a dangerous tackle. The tackles I'm talking about are dangerous tackles.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

The tackle from behind thing is a bit difficult and really I think refs aren't too bad at getting the bad ones of those. Ludicrous tackles with the player flying in off the floor seem to somehow get away far too lightly and the brief clamp down this season should have continued. The referees as a group need to stop reading the papers - it was the correct thing to do and just because the press and TV say it is making the game less manly or whatever crap it was they were spouting they should be ignored until they just accept it as the norm.

Talk about putting presure on Atkinson for next week, fecker should not be allowed to comment upon refs. If Hackett had given them a pen and sent Jamo off and they'd won he would have been singing his praises.

Yes, to tackle a player on the run from slightly behind but coming in from the side for the ball with a stretched out leg (also being done on the run) Is an art/skill imo. The tackle from behind cant totally be outlawed for this reason. Obviously the 'going through the man from behind' with no chance of getting the ball is another matter.

Rooney should have gone for Both Feet being off the ground & the clear intent, given away by the look on his ugly mug.
