£37,424,000. £16m in transfer fees and £21.4m in wages. When i see figures written down like this it makes me shudder. Football truly has gone crazy.

Absolutely
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
Newcastle hasn't lost that much in wages. They have got most of it back from the FA and insurances. I think most people forget that when a player gets a long term injury. The clubs won't lose that much.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
If thats the case, imagine how costly it is to insure Owen against injury - must be a million or two a year at least!
They probably pay a certain amount for the whole squad, not player specific.

But each individual in the squad and their injury history will be taken into account if that's the case, plus what they pay in wages. Either way it ain't good for the Geordie bottlers.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.
I would have thought that's the case too mate. It may be a combined premium but it will be judged on an individual basis.

Wasn't there major rows going on after his first injury when Fat Freddie was around - think FA only contributed £1m to his wages despite them paying him 5 times that figure over the same amount of time (not including his depreciation in value as another year closer the end of his contract)
As has been said already, insurance companies don't often lose money - even if they did pay out, you can be sure their premiums went up next time their renewal came around
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly
On a side not does anyone have the website address of the depressed Geordie fella who rated every game in terms of vultures? I've not read it since Keegan was appointed and i fancy a good laugh.
How?
