    [bumped] Pennant

    From the Mirror:

    [QUOTE]PENN'S RIGHT AT
    Forbes knows best... FACT

I'm not convinced woth Pennant, not a particularly popular view I know, but still.

For me, when you combine his baggage, which is undeniable, with the fact he doesnt always seem to stand out in games, it seems to me he's overhyped.

I keep hearing the fact he had the most number of crosses last season, but surely we should be think quality, not quantity?

I'll be right behind him if we get him of course, but he's not the player I expected this summer, however he is a RW, which at Anfield is a bleedin' miracle, so I hope if he signs he shoves my words down my throat for me!

      Please god no.....

This is pure deja vu, an overpriced average English player coming from a relegated team.

      He's not worth anywhere near

He's a decent player but if he's not good enough for the arse he's not good enough for us. Think we'll sign him though.

Agree with that entirely, however, I am a little torn, as I'd prefer Pennant to having Stevie stuck out on the right instead of rampaging through the middle.

            Do I know you ?

One point I'd like to raise is, why is it we stand firm on prices for foreign players (Alves, Simao) yet don't seem to mind paying over the odds for English ones (Crouch, possibly Pennant) ?

As for having Stevie "stuck out on the right" we had the perfect balance in midfield with him out there. All our big results last season (bar one) came when we had the trio of Alonso, Sissoko and Gerrard in the midfield. I'd be reluctant to change it.

Because we don't? With both Alves and Simao we increased our offers substantially over the period of the negotiations.

I'm not convinced with Pennant either. People have thrown stats at me about his crossing but yet everytime I see him play it is usually poor. I think we can do better personally.

Have only considered Pennant to be a squad player & we really don't have

It wasn't just the most crosses. It was the most Successful crosses of any player in the Prem.. When you've got a player hitting a player all the time in the box with Heskey and co, think what he could be like with Crouch and co.

I think he's a terrific player - just what we need. Apart from his indisputable ability (the stats don't lie) he works really hard for the team. I'd rather we paid

Zlightly concerned that his price seems to have inflated from a good value

Havnt seen much of him apart from the two league matches last season in which I thought he was excellent in a very poor side. I would have thought him a bargain at
