The increase in Pennant rumours seems to suggest that the Alves deal is dead, which is a shame as i think he is a potentially world class player, and the sort of player that we need if we are going to challange Chelsea next season.

However, I wouldn't be too unhappy if we signed Pennant as he has a good cross on him, and as already said it would free up Stevie G, which can only be a good thing. And Rafa must rate him as he appears to be his second choice for that position, and at the end of the day. In Rafa We Trust.

Pennant is the next best player we can afford after Alves.
Anyone have any other candidate in mind?

I think Pennant is the most natural right winger in the country. He doesn't however seem to offer much threat on goal and has had attitude problems in the past. I think it is a gamble worth taking if the terms are right - I think a fee of

Agree with that entirely, however, I am a little torn, as I'd prefer Pennant to having Stevie stuck out on the right instead of rampaging through the middle.
          Agree with that.

i don't mind pennant, if it enables us to sign Kuyt.

Pennant is a quality player make no mistake. He is a competent passer and tackler, is pretty good at beating a man, and when it comes to getting the ball in the box there's not many better. That's not to say I wouldn't prefer the more cultured, technically able Alves though.

malbranque wants over 50k a week, which is why he's not found a club yet. i'd sooner have pennant than him anyway - he's no different to danny murphy imo. good at a small club, nothing but a fringe player at a top club.

Yet again theres no proof about his wage demands i think thats just paper bollocks! Do you realy think that he would demand so much to price himself out of a transfer and end up staying at fulham playing with the juniors! not a chance! I can see where your coming from with the comparison to murphy (very good playmaker great vision) but you cant say that he wouldnt be good at a big club cos you havent seen him at a big club! the difference between murphy and malbranque is than murphys a lazy ******* always has been always will be, you can call malbranque lazy!

But isnt Alves a RB or wing back. He's not a RM and IMO would be an alternative to Finnan.

If we are looking for a RM then at least thats what Pennant is. Plus he has premiership experience

Alves plays a similar style to cafu (wing back) but has played right wing numerous times for seville! i think rafa wants him for right wing and as cover for finnan, cos we could always drop alves to right back and play gerro, garcia, kewell, gonzalez, zenden, or even anderson at right wing if finnan got injured!

It would be nice to see Stevie run amok in the middle again.

Speaking of which, does anyone know the origin of the phrase "run amok"?

                              No idea mate!
Theres no doubt that gerro is best used in the middle but with momo and xabi in the middle gonzalez on the left and gerro on the right id like anyone to show me a better MF in the world right now! I would sacrifice gerro on the right for another year so we could use our cash for kuyt and get alves next year! alves says hes only interested in joining us so he aint going anywhere else, so we can always sign him next year!

Lets face it, Stevie didn't have a bad year coming in from the right did he?
