I think the point is he wasn't playing at all last time - merely training with Arsenal.

Now he's playing a lot of games - albeit pre-season friendlies.

He's a fit lad anyway. Don't see the big deal myself.

I think Capello just wants to get the 100th cap out the way so he can be seen to have done the right thing. I guess he wanted his first friendly to contain the players and specifically those he might want as captain without the whole Beckham thing over anyones head.

He also spoke about the squad last time not having the right mentality yet - maybe he wants Beckham there as a player he knows is willing to fight for a place and who can give an example to the younger players.

ay just been discussing this in work - imo it's to give him his 100 caps and then they can bin him off and he can enter the hall of fame

He has been quite impressive this season and seems like a nice lad too.

As for Beckham, its no great surprise, Capello is a bit of a fan of him from their time at Real. I did think he would give him a miss for this squad though and include him in the squad for the USA match.

In all honesty we dont have a wealth of top quality options for the RM slot.

He certainly can't be in the squad on merit. Hopefully it's a PR exercise to give him his 100th cap and then close the book on him.

He's been a great servant but the MLS is Championship standard at best. It's time to move on.

I think Beckham has earned the chance over the years to get his 100th cap. So get it done and then start blooding the younger players like Bentley.

I think if he was to feature, he will play in the same role he played at Real. He will play in the 2 of the 4-2-3-1 as he doesn't have the pace to run down the flanks. In this role, he can be the Xabi meaning he doesn't put the tackles in(Hargreaves can do that) he simply distributes the ball out.

I think hes **** in that role and I would rather play Hargreaves and Barry before him. You cant play someone in that role that doesnt have to put the tackles in. Xabi gets plenty of tackles in. No room for passengers in that position IMO.

What I am trying to get at is that Beckham will be the more advanced of the two, but not by much. I think he can play that role. He showed for Real he can and I doubt he will start against France, a mere cameo appearance for the last 10-15 minutes is all Capello will give him to carve open tired defences with through balls and so on.

Agreed. Beckham seemed to think that right-side of midfield was somehow beneath him and that he was destined to play in the middle.

                        Why?

He is (was) a fantastic right-sided midfield player and a **** central midfielder. He isn’t disciplined enough and nor is he intelligent enough. He was largely pants there for Real which is why he was in and out of the team and ended up getting binned.

                          Because I'm bored:

                          James

                          Richards Terry Ferdinand Bridge

                          Hargreaves Huddlestone

                          Bentley Gerrard Joe Cole

                          Rooney

He was a pivotal part of Real winning the title last season. The second half of the season, his performances were back to usual self. He wasn't sulking or anything. Very professional.
