It's just so bloody stupid not to tie up a talent like this when you know that your worst rival will play against him a few days later.

I would have been on the phone almost 24/7 to convince him to sign a pre-contract with us before the game, not sitting on my ass doing nothing when you have an agreement with the club to sign him.

If it then piss him off then so be it but then I would at least have showed how much I want him to sign for us.

Only a written contract is worth anything, an agreement without a written contract isn't worth anything at all because that can be broken anytime.

But fully agree with you about the tie in, I dont know why we dont sort something like that out with some say Portugese, French, Spanish, Dutch Skando teams get in their with some hot talent. Whatever we have with Ashanti Gold isnt working.

Well, if you believe PT that is. He said that we had agreed a fee with Sporting and then he and Parry didn't do anything for a week and then they heard on the radio that Man U had signed him for £12m. In the same week Man U played Sporting in a friendly.

They should have got his name on some sort of pre-contract as soon as the fee was agreed.

There was apparently some sort of issue about how much we would pay him. He would have been paid pretty decent money but this would have caused problems within the squad with the young players because we had just signed Le Tallec and Pongolle who were being paid a hell of a lot less.

I think PT's book also said that we agreed a fee that was a lot less than the one United actually paid.

We should just blame Parry anyway.
