Also, as someone above pointed out - we have been shopping in a different market to chelsea and utd and more or less rebuilding a whole squad as opposed to just adding one or two quality signings.

Now if we compared our crap signings to say Newcastle, SPurs, Villa etc over the last 5 years or so who has made the worst signing then?
I don't know, that's the point of the thread - to find out!

As you mention Newcastle though, what about Keegan, he's made some great signings for them in the past, namely the likes of Asprilla, Albert and Ginola

      It was just an observation

I think the other thing which makes comparisons uneven when looking at Arsenal and United is that they've had one manager in the last 10 years, so there isn't an urge for wholesale changes. Any new manager comes in and has his own ideas and freshens up the squad, and with any transfer there is a certain degree of risk attached (see Morientes, Malouda, or Veron!)

I think if it wasn't for the summer of 2002, Houllier's transfers would stand-up better, he obviously flopped spectactularly then, which took the club 5 years to get over.

Was Albert a good signing? He was a Youtube signing, and far inferior to Henchoz, Hyypia, Agger, Skrtel, Vidic and probably a million and one other centrebacks.

...but he did score a beauty against United!

I'm actually intrigued about who Keegan will sign in the summer. What chance Deco and ronaldinho? Actually, the former wouldn't shock me at all.

Next newcastle manager will be Cesare Maldini

Lets not forget Taibi, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world at the time and of course Veron............how much did he cost again, more than all our flops put together I would imagine

Maybe so, but he also did more on the pitch than all our 'flops' put together. I think some people are classing the wrong players in this bracket. Veron was seen as a bit of a let down as he was a big fee and he never reproduced the form he had in Italy, but if you weigh what he did on the pitch even below his best when at utd and chelsea, against the muck savages I'm on about, they're worlds apart.

Veron would have been **** if he was a free. Veron was no better than Cheyrou.

Why? Because they didn't play for Liverpool perhaps?!
