    Fabregas

If anyone has last nights match, watch Fabregas as Gerrard places the ball on the spot.

The more sadistic of you will revel (as I did) in his tears, his wiping of his face with his shirt and his anguished expression, knowing as he does that its game over for Arsenal.

Marky and the more sympathetic of you will realise that is the face of a boy who is heartbroken and distraught, and one who has already surrendered the game, his belief lying in Gerrard's ability to convert the spot kick rather than in his team-mate Almunia's ability to save.

Fabregas is surely on the verge of mental and physical exhaustion. In Henry's absence he has been the leading light of Arsenal's campaign, but with the heavy price of expectancy and pressure. In addition he has been played non stop by Wenger since he was 16, how much more can his body take before it quite literally crumbles?

Never noticed his reactions, could barely watch the penalty

Your right about him being overworked though. Too much on his shoulders, he's only about 21

He is obviously knackered though, which is why i was delighted when Flamini got stretcherd off lol. I knew that would swing it for us.It was obvious on saturday that Fab is worn out. He has the euro championships coming up which will tire him more and he may be below par next season due to a lack of rest

However i dont think he will burn out anytime soon. He's still young and fit. It's possible though that when he is about 26-27 he'll start to break the same way Fowler, Owen, Ronaldo etc etc eventually started deteriorating

Which is makes all the more silly Wenger's decision not to play Diarra more to give Fab a rest earlier in the season.

I'm welling up here. It is a lot of responsibility, and very stressful on a young body. What a player though.

It's hardly a one for one swap that though is it? Added to the fact that when he played for Arsenal I though Diarra looked pretty average. The more general point that Arsenal need a bigger squad however is pretty unarguable.

Ok Diarra isn't as dynamic as Fabregas but he can and does play in a more advanced central midfield position to, say Flamini or Gilberto (which makes me wonder at what point Gilberto became just Gilberto and not Gilberto Silva?!?)

Was I the only one who wanted him to **** that gob of his on the post as Sami's header flew past him into the net. Also what a cheating little **** desperately trying to pull Babel down at the end. **** him.

Possibly the answer there was yes mate

He looked shattered, I reckoned Gallas would have been the leader this year and he has shown glimpses, but he is their oldest and most experienced player and I dont think he's shouldered enough of the repsonsibility.

I think Diarra's overall game has been over rated. he has a lot of potential as a middle ground between Mascher and Alonso with a more consistent shot but right now he lacks guile in my view and that is one of the key things that Fabregas brings to their team. I guess if they had played a different formation with Hleb, Rosicky and Walcott off Adebayor then Diarra and Flamini deeper could have worked for them. Wenger seems to only be happy moving people about a fairly rigid team pattern which looks like 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1/4-5-1 depending on who plays closest to the main striker.
