    Bosingwa to Chelsea

Portuguese sports daily O Jogo reports that Chelsea have completed the signing of FC Porto right-back José Bosingwa.

Avram Grant was desperate to bring in a new right-sided defender as he was reportedly unhappy with the current options available at Stamford Bridge for this position.
O Jogo says the two clubs concurred on a €20 million deal yesterday, suggesting that the deal will be formally announced on Monday.

Even as Bosingwa was being widely tipped for a move to Manchester United, Chelsea were working behind the scenes in their attempt to lure the 25-year-old into their ranks, and quickly gathered the fee Porto were requesting - something United were not keen on.

What is more, the Blues managed to prevent their domestic rivals from knowing about their approach, making sure the Red Devils did not have time to burst into action.

The Portuguese international is expected to face stiff competition for a place in the starting XI from compatriot Paulo Ferreira and Brazilian Juliano Belletti, although one of them will reportedly leave the club in the summer.

Bosingwa joined Porto from Boavista in 2003 and has cemented his position as Jesualdo Ferreira's first choice in the right side of the defence since Ferreira departed for the London-based club.

Very good signing if true. It's impossible to compete with them in the transfer market.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

That's the difference really. They have a weakness at RB, so they go and splash the cash on the best RB available, **** the price.

We have a weakness at RB, but we also have weaknesses in other areas of the team and a limited budget, so we get someone on a free who's not as good.

Erm, i dont think he is the best available at all. Infact i don't rate him highly. Not bothered if they get him. Waste of 20m euros

Ya it's sick. Still they will never get the credit they deserve due to buying it
When a player joins them it's nearly impossible for other clubs to then prize him away unless he hands in a transfer request.

This is the thing, though. Even if he turns out to be **** they can go off and buy someone else. Paulo Ferreira cost about £14 million and no-one bats an eyelid when he's out of the side, but a manager with more constrictive funding (say, Rafa, for example) spends a couple of mill on a dud full-back and there is uproar.

Hahahaha. How ridiculous a fee is that.

Chelsea to break even by 2009 then?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                      Mine angry and defrauded young?

I doubt, they still have massive debts. Its to my understanding that they wanted to spend loads (in hundreds of millions) at the start and kick start their marketing in the US and Asia accordingly. They still have £130m debt or something.
