Zenit were amazing. They controlled the game and had Rangers in the palm of their hand. It was just a matter of when they were going to score. With Rangers deciding to go more open in the second half, Arshavin started to exploit the space with deadly passes in and around the attacking third. I feel for Rangers, we were in that position last season in Athens. Great campaign from Rangers.

zenit were worthy winners, although watching the highlight reel at the end of the broadcast proved just how dire that game was. bar that moment of genius from arshavin, it was a crap game imho

Thousands of Rangers supporters have been left disappointed after a big screen due to show the Uefa cup final broke down.

Police came under fire from bottles and cans from frustrated fans.

An estimated 100,000 fans descended on the city to see the match which Zenit St Petersburg eventually won 2-1.

One of the big screens in the city centre failed before the game started - forcing thousands of fans to leave Piccadilly Gardens.

One fan said it was "an absolute shambles".

Police said the trouble has been very minor and only involved a handful of people.

Hastily-arranged screen

The council set up three special fan zones with big screens for ticketless fans to watch the match.

Although the TV in Piccadilly Gardens failed, others in Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens did show the game.

However, they were already full and supporters were offered buses to take them to a hastily-arranged screen outside the velodrome at Sports City, near to the City of Manchester Stadium, where the match took place.

The council said it put on buses to take fans to the screen to see the remainder of the match.

It confirmed the screen failed due to a "technical fault".

Fans that had been waiting in Piccadilly Gardens all day were unimpressed.

One said: "This is absolutely ridiculous - there's Rangers fans throwing balls and cans at each other because the game's not on.

"We've been sat here since 12 o'clock waiting on the game coming on. The coverage started at seven o'clock and then five minutes later the game's off.

"It's an absolute shambles, shame on Manchester, shame on Manchester - it's let the country down."

Another supporter added: "The people of Manchester have been fantastic - but the officials behind this are a total disgrace.

"Some people are really angry they've spent a lot of money - maybe £4,000 to £5,000 - to come down here for this."
