    Fergie let off

    Unbelievable

    United bosses cleared by FA

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and his assistant Carlos Queiroz have been found not guilty of improper conduct.

The pair had been charged following their criticism of referee Martin Atkinson and Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO) general manager Keith Hackett after the 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

United had a claim for a penalty turned down, before Atkinson awarded Pompey a spot-kick and sent off goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak after he had brought down Milan Baros.

Ferguson was furious after the game, saying: "Managers get sacked because of things like that and he's going to referee a game next week.

"He [Hackett] is not doing his job properly and he needs to be assessed.

"I'm assessed as a manager, players are assessed, referees should be assessed properly by the right people. That performance should not be accepted by our game."

Queiroz was also unhappy with Atkinson's officiating but the pair have now been cleared by the Football Association

Why is everyone in the game so **** scared of that alchy?

ANY other manager would've had the book thrown at him for that.

And it worked. Bennett was so sh*t scared he handed them the title.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

That is amazing, they should at least have got fines and probably touchline bans. In saying that - why am I not surprised. Took the FA long enough to 'consider' it and then snuck out the decision nearly 2.5 months after the incident.

It said on the radio report that the FA said the charges couldn't be proved, wtf couldn't be proved, it was there for everyone to see & hear, this really is pathetic, as pathetic as it gets.

I'm still pissed at Mashers treatment by them, a so called clamp down that started with Cole & ended with Masher & Torres, the scum got away with worse when playing the chavs a week or so later, as per ****in usual, so damn annoying.

****ing joke. Their title wins are tainted by dodgy refereeing and preferential treatment from the FA

                    Was to be expected

Hopefully he'll do a Cloughie (in the sense of staying on too long and leading to the demise of his empire)

Its hardly surprising the scum own the FA

I just hope other clubs use this as a reference case when they get hauled in front of the FA

What does it matter what the written transcript said? It's all on camera for the world to see. Also, surely other managers get action taken against them all the time for abusing refs? I read in another article that the commission doesn't have the power to hand out a touchline ban but I seem to remember many a manager forced to sit in the stands after a disciplinary hearing.

FA fury after Alex Ferguson is let off the hook

By Henry Winter and Mark Ogden

The Football Association are considering an appeal against yesterday's decision by an independent commission not to punish Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlos Queiroz for their stinging criticism of referee Martin Atkinson. "We are both surprised and disappointed by the result," an FA spokesman said last night.

The FA's licence to appeal was written into the governing body's rules only last summer and this will be the first time they have exercised their new right. Only when the independent commission's reasoning arrives in the next 48 hours will the FA decide whether to appeal, but there is clearly deep frustration within Soho Square at the Manchester United manager and his assistant escaping sanction.

If the FA do seek to take the issue further, it will be heard by an appeal board chaired by a QC appointed by the Sports Dispute Resolution Panel, an independent body. Two members of the FA Council will be on the appeal board.

However, it was claimed last night that the FA made basic mistakes in their case. Graham Bean, the former FA compliance officer who has represented Ferguson for three years, said: "The written transcript of Carlos's interview that the FA put forward was incorrect, so that was an error on their part."

Bean also argued that the FA had not taken action against other managers who had been openly critical of referees.

Ferguson and Queiroz were charged with improper conduct by the FA after comments made about the West Yorkshire official following United's 1-0 home defeat by Portsmouth in the FA Cup sixth round in March.
                              advertisement

But after yesterday's hearing in London they avoided a fine as the charges were 'found not proved'. The charge against Ferguson concerned remarks about both Atkinson and Keith Hackett, the general manager of Professional Game Match Officials.

Queiroz's charge related to comments about Atkinson only. Ferguson had described Atkinson's performance as 'ridiculous' in a televised interview and suggested that 'managers get sacked because of things like that' after Atkinson had dismissed United appeals for a penalty before awarding Portsmouth a match-winning spot-kick and sending off goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak late in the game.

Queiroz, speaking on BBC TV's Match of the Day, labelled Atkinson a 'robber' and a 'disgrace'.
