True, he received his yellow for a horrible tackle on Donovan. Completely warranted as he came in late, studs up on Donovan's shin. I had thought he had already been booked, but I see you are right; Second yellow for dissent, which is a joke; this ref was from El Salvador and was in way over his head (as almost all CONCACAF refs are). The second yellow and red to Mastroeni was a case of the ref mistaking his number for another player (#26 committed the foul, but the ref ejected #25- Mastroeni, for a second yellow when he had not committed a foul or said a single word). FIFA will take a look at this match; Typical CONCACAF ref overawed by the big match and calling **** all night. That said, Mascher's tackle was awful and he knew it.

by all accounts could have been a straight red so you think he'd of just accepted the yellow, apologised and got on with it

to travel half way round the world to play a few games and then get yourself suspended is crazy

He is a hotheaded player and will/can never change. We have to learn to accept that it is part of his game. More to follow....

It's simply a side effect of his tenacity and commitment.

True but he has to learn to curb it, same way Rooney has under Ferguson. Can't have him getting sent off in big games like Man U again.

Sorry Sarah, but if the ref's in this country showed some balls and consistency, then Rooney would get sent off a lot for his temperament.

You cant deny he's calmed down dramatically since he played under Ferguson though. I'm not really criticising Masher, I think he's boss but him getting sent off against ManU had a massive affect on our game. Who knows how it could have ended up if he'd stayed on. Instead they embarrassed us.

                        Thing is Rooney HASN'T.

The point I was gonna make after reading about Masher is this......if he was guilty, fine, no problem, but if the same rules were applied to Rooney he'd be sent off most weeks.

You can see him saying that to referees with every decision that goes against him.

But Rooney...no, you don't send him off. He's the nation's darling, he plays for those darlings Manchester United, who are managed by that man that everyone's scared of.

Oh I agree RE Masher, but I think Rooney gets away with an unbelievable amount, and is consistently far worse than Masher in his abuse towards referees. And he still makes dodgy tackles when he is frustrated.

                            True,
nothing about Rooney's attitude to opposition players and reckless revenge tackles has changed..
The likes of Sky Sports punditry would like everyone to believe that he's grown up etc etc, but the simple truth is that he is protected by the refs in the Premier League..
If a foreign player was going around assaulting players, swearing at refs, constant badgering (look what happened to Masch at ManU) like he does........they would have been hung, drawn and quartered by now..

Most recent example was against Blackburn........remember everything that happened after his dive in the box..
