    Deco to join Chelsea

Barcelona midfielder Deco will join his Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea, BBC Sport understands.

Reports in Portugal that Deco had met with Blues owner Roman Abramovich on Thursday were denied by the player in Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.

But Mike Sewell, BBC Five Live's man with the Portugal squad, said sources were tipping him to move to Chelsea.

"They believe Deco will go with Scolari rather than join up with old boss Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan," he said.

Barca confirmed recently that Deco was free to talk to other teams. Scolari takes over at Stamford Bridge on 1 July after overseeing Portugal's Euro 2008 campaign.

The Brazil-born star joined Barcelona from Porto in 2004 after helping the Portuguese side win the Uefa Cup, Champions League and domestic league titles under Mourinho.

He won two league championships with the Catalan giants, and was part of the team that beat Arsenal in the Champions League final in Paris in 2006.

However, a series of injuries have hampered his season, and he made just 14 starts in Barcelona's La Liga campaign.

Sewell added that Deco had left the Portugal camp on Thursday after being granted 24 hours' leave by Scolari.

"He flew to Barcelona to sort out a personal matter, believed to be the finalising of his divorce," he said.

Looks like Lampard will be off then.

Could be a good thing for Chelsea.

Good, all the cocksuckers and bum boys will be in together ****ing gaylords.

Man I'm pissed off with the state of football at the moment, ****ing hate it. Tossers like Deco moving to a bunch of monkeys for the money and for being but ****ed by Carvalho and Ferreira. I hope they get relegated and Rafa batters fat Phil Scolari, he's going to regret moving there.

    It makes me ****ing sick.

In saying that, watching Holland tonight reminded me of why I love football so much, seeing them all celebrate together after a majestic game....brilliant!!

It kind of reminded me of when we won the champions league.

Apparently Deco to Chelsea will not be happening afterall as he's viewed too old.

He is a really outstanding player. Whoever gets him will improve their peak performance - the question is will he take to the physicality of the PL. Of late players (no matter how talented) seem to not do so well if they come at first later in their career.

He's a fantastic player and more importantly gets players into play and his game is a simple one. He never over indulge into party tricks, and rarely misses a pass. Would be a fantastic addition to any side, even though he's 31'ish. Remember Barnesy when he was converted to a central role ? He's more or less in the same mould.

if used in the right role and has a minder with him he will be fine. Say if he joined us and played say where SG plays now and had Mascher to help back him up then he'd be fine.
TBH though he is quality and should be fine wherever he ends up.

I disagree as Tugay has been brilliant for Blackburn.

I'm not saying that it is true of all just of many. It wouldn't stop me wanting Deco for example - I just think that recent years have shown that on average younger players adapt better. I also think that it is about when you come - Tugay has been here for ages now and adapted at a time when the PL was less competitive and did it for a team with much less pressure to perform. There is nothing to say older players can't do well or adapt just that I think it is harder for them.

                            Why Hull?

"Through me the way into the suffering city,
Through me the way to the eternal pain,
Through me the way that runs among the lost.
                            Justice urged on my high artificer;
                            My maker was divine authority,
The highest wisdom, and the primal love.
Before me nothing but eternal things were made,
                            And I endure eternally.
Abandon every hope, ye who enter here."

                            And like that… he's gone

                              That's a very good question.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
