Wow... The game yesterday was amazing... I got to meet so many players, but the highlight was meeting Robbie Fowler. I arrived very early and took a seat ON THE PITCH and was lucky; They removed most people to the outside of the fenced in area before the game began. So, with people hanging off the fences and a fortnuate 150 or so of us early birds seated on the pitch, we got to watch a very fun game with NBA players and footballing legends, including Thierry Henry and Soloman Kalou, who both put on a show. Not like Robbie, though; He scored a hat trick (right footed flick, right footed strike, left footed penalty... ha).
a couple of pictures for you (sorry, all I have for now is a little point and shoot camera)
That's me and Robbie as he signs my kit; I had to snap the pics myself, hence my half face. Oh well, it's still pretty great!
That's how close we were. Robbie actually ran into me on the sideline, but I obviously didn't get a photo of that.
Another Fowler fan; I loved the shirt, proud he got an autograph!
Macca was there, too... thankfully he didn't provide any halftime analysis. Ha. Got is autograph, too...
Thierry Henry torches Baron Davis, point guard for the Golden Satae Warriors of the NBA.
Fowler on the attack... note the kids on the fence. I love NYC!
He looks particularly God-like in that light, no?
Anyway, I have more photos and commentary on my Flickr page which is here:
Robbie played the whole match and was very fit; Full of tricks as well-- he and Henry played the ball down the field using only their heads for about 6 or 7 passes... the game was great fun.

What's a pick-up game? Is it like a kick-about in the park or something?
Yeah, same thing. "pick-up game" applies to basketball, American football, baseball, soccer/football, whatever; Players just showing up and picking teams and playing a game spontaneously. This one was not a pick-up game, obviously; This was a planned, organized event. But it had the feel of a pick-up game, hence the reference.

Awesome. Looks so cool. I figured it would be played in a big stadium but its so cool to see so many star players playing in what appears to be a local high school playground
Do you know the most amazing thing about Fowler? I bet most of those NYC folk probably didn't know who he was as he looks such an average joe and probably had no idea that he is worth over $100m

There were several Reds there and he signed autographs for 5 minutes before the game; No security per se once they came into the ground, so we just ran up and stole photos and got things signed. Most people knew who he was, but yes, more people knew the basketball players and Theirry Henry than cared about Robbie. I wanted to ask him real estate investing advice, but didn't have the cheek. Special moment for me, though.
And yes, it was a public park in the middle of Chinatown:
