    Rooney Suffering From Mystery Lurgie

    From the beeb.

Rooney set to miss season opener

Rooney is the latest name added to Ferguson's missing list
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to miss the start of the Premier League season on 17 August after picking up a virus.

The 22-year-old contracted the mystery virus on United's pre-season tour of Nigeria and has not trained since.

"I doubt Wayne will be fit for the start of the season," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It's a virus he picked up in Nigeria and it's not a nice one. He's not been back in training yet."

Ferguson revealed Rooney's illness was diagnosed by the club's own laboratory.

He also added that the squad had only taken malaria tablets ahead of the trip to Africa.

Rooney's illness leaves Ferguson facing a selection dilemma ahead of the opening match of the season at home to Newcastle.

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the first two months of the season following ankle surgery regardless of whether he moves to Real Madrid or stays at Old Trafford.

Portuguese midfielder Nani is suspended while Anderson is on Olympic duty with Brazil.

Rooney's problems could also reignite Ferguson's interest in signing Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov.

As it stands, Ferguson has only Carlos Tevez, untested youngster Fraizer Campbell and Louis Saha to choose from up front.

    Hope it's not too trivial.

They diagnosed 'a mystery virus' now that is incredible work right there. I'm sure their crack team of grandmothers took seconds to come up with that diagnosis.

      Yeah, like.........

      Rooney: I feel sick.

Doctor: oooooh, you've got a temperature, your burning up, hmmm, could be a virus. ( or the after effects of the labotomy).

      Dah Dahhhh.

Hmmmn, Rooney in drugs taking scandal, caught by a random internal drugs text, not an officially sanctioned FIFA one? Therefore, they rest him for a few weeks, so he won't get tested by FIFA and then release him back into the frey?

        Just a thought.

          But Seriously.

This sounds bad, very bad, to know at this stage that he wont make the start of the season sounds serious. A virus from a foreign country, what about the jabs he'll have had, or are we just talking food poisening type thingy.

Then again they could be overplaying it, but either way hell miss the rest or most of pre season.

Posted before reading above post, so in response, Rooney and a failed internal Drugs test, well that would certainly be interesting, Fifa should insist on testing him now, just for luck.

I really don't think this is a laughing matter and we should show they guy some respect.

I hope, for his sake, that it's a flesh-eating virus. Boy, he could do with losing some fat.
