    Thaksin's Done a Runner

Not sure where this is going to leave City, but surely it can't be good.

The former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra skipped bail yesterday and fled to exile in Britain, claiming he could not expect a fair trial on corruption charges because of political interference.

Thaksin and his wife, Pojaman, who was sentenced to three years in prison two weeks ago for fraud, said they flew to Britain because they had received "death threats" in Thailand.

Rumours were rife that the couple would flee after Pojaman, 51, was convicted of evading millions of pounds in taxes in connection with a 1997 shares transfer deal. But family aides had scotched the suggestion.

I don't see this affecting City at all. He done a runner from Thailand and has now set up home here in the UK. He transferred most of his money to the UK last year in preparation for this and as far as i know the Thai government cannot seize the vast majority of his assets.

I don't see our government being able to send him back as he is too powerful and rich and will claim that his life is at threat.

I thought the stories I was reading said that he has had close to a billion seized by the Thai government pending trial. How much more money than that did he have?

He's had a lot of his assets frozen already and according to the BBC gossip column had to borrow money to pay wages. Also you have to think that at some point the Premier League will have to apply it's fit and proper persons test and he is not looking a good bet to pass that right now.

I admit it is unclear how much money he has safe in this country but the lack of significant transfer activity does at least indicate he is not the Abramovich type figure that people were claiming he would be last year. I'm so glad we avoided getting him in as the new owner - he is possibly the only person in the world who would have been worse for our reputation and I would hate to be linked with a man under the cloud he is under.

Even if he had the money I would like him at the club.

City were days away from folding at Xmas. Thanksin asked the former Chairman Wardle to cover the wages. He's ebven trying to raise runds by selling off players without the knowledge f the manager (Ireland and Corlucka).
They've won the league, bigger stars than Dallas, they've got more silver than Buckhingham Palace, no one knows quite what to expect, when the Red Machine's in full effect!

Well i guess it would explain Johnson not signing a new contract and Corluka and Ireland possibly being sold. But then again how did they manage to spend £19m on JO?
