I always thought there was an element of the "Emperor's New Robes" about AVB. Lots of people who really pay too much attention to foreign football all falling over themselves to demonstrate their trufan credentials by proclaiming how amazing he was after that season with Porto.

He always seemed completely out of his depth. What was the whole "standing on my haunches for 90 minutes" way of watching the game about? - equivalent to Mourinho's scarf and burton's coat from the first time he came to the Prem, just a gimmick.
