Agree with the first part...just drop away goals for Extra time. Both teams have had 90 minutes to be ahead on away goals, if scores are level at that point, neither team should be at an advantage. I think this is already in place for the League Cup Semi's isn't it?

I never liked Golden Goal for some reason even though we won the UEFA Cup with one!

But as mentioned, the home team then gets the advantage because they have the longer home game.

I think the unfairness of the current situation is overstated. The system has flaws but at least it keeps the game going through extra time with less incentive to sit back and play for penalties.

That's a slight, unavoidable advantage. Minor. And normally that's earned by topping your group and ensuring you have a home tie for the 2nd leg.
