More talks today between PSG ans Villas-Boas. AVB is definitely the priority now. £10M release clause obviously not a pb for PSG.

Tottenham Hotspur put Argentine Erik Lamela on their list of targets as PSG step up interest in Andre Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a bid for the highly-rated Argentine forward Erik Lamela as the Premier League club faces a fight to keep head coach Andre Villas-Boas.

Erik Lamela playing for River Plate - Tottenham Hotspur put Argentine Erik Lamela on their list of targets as PSG step up interest in Andre Villas-Boas

                  By Jason Burt

                  10:00PM BST 15 Jun 2013

The impending arrival of Franco Baldini as Spurs’ new director of football has increased the chances of signing Lamela, who worked with the Italian at Roma.

However, Paris St-Germain are increasingly confident that they can persuade Villas-Boas to become their next head coach, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti who is taking over at Real Madrid. It is unclear whether Villas-Boas, who has been on holiday, is tempted but PSG’s interest is rising.

The wealthy French club are willing to meet the £10  million release clause in Villas-Boas’s contract at Spurs but are yet to make an official approach. They have identified the 35-year-old Portuguese as an ideal fit for the club – with his attacking style and coaching ability.

Spurs will hope that hiring Baldini – who was recommended by Villas-Boas last year – and pushing ahead with their transfer plans will persuade the head coach that they are ambitious.

As well as attempting to sign the Brazilian international Paulinho for around £14.5  million from Corinthians, Villas-Boas wants to strengthen further in the hope of challenging for honours next season. Talks are ongoing to sign the 24-year-old box-to-box midfielder who will play for Brazil during the Confederations Cup and has emerged as a key player for coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Spurs’ interest in 21-year-old Lamela predates Baldini’s expected appointment with Villas‑Boas also an admirer of the forward who has so far earned only one senior cap for Argentina.

Lamela also fits the mould of the kind of versatile forward that Villas-Boas likes, given he can play on the wing or through the middle. He scored 15 times for Roma last season in 33 appearances. Lamela is known for his pace and dribbling ability and Villas-Boas regards him as a possible complement to Gareth Bale in a fluid forward line as the head coach eventually switches to a 4-3-3 formation.

It is unclear as to what level of fee Roma would demand for Lamela, if they agree to sell him, having paid €12  million (£10.2  million) to acquire him from Argentinian club River Plate.

Lamela has been linked to both Manchester clubs but no bid has, so far, been submitted.

Roma would probably hope to double their money although it remains to be seen whether Spurs would make a bid of that scale for Lamela given their continued interest in Barcelona's David Villa.

Talks are ongoing over signing the 31-year-old Spain international, who is keen to move to White Hart Lane, although Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy could be reluctant to pay a fee of around £8  million. Spurs also remain interested in another Brazil international, Atletico Mineiro forward Bernard, but are yet to make an offer for the 20-year-old.

Hope not. Would rather AVB stay.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

No way. Much prefer him to go. Laudrup is a novice, could be anything, but more to the point having to start all over again would be a nightmare for Spurs. Their fans desperately want AVB to stay - him leaving would be bad for them and great for us.

AVB has got the Benitez treatment from the media over here.

There is no doubt he is a good manager. better than Laudrup, whose main strength this season really came from good (and sometimes lucky) buys and his slight tweaking of the style that some bloke laid the foundations for.
