Speaking ahead of tonight's Premier League game against Sunderland at White Hart Lane, live on Sky Sports 1, Sherwood said: "I can't say much right now. What I can say is tonight is business as usual.

"I'm setting this team up to win a football match for the benefit of the club and the 35,000 Spurs fans who will come and watch. I'll speak at a later stage."

Tim Sherwood to be replaced by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur plan to replace passionate Tim Sherwood with a new head coach at the end of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino the number one target

Tottenham Hotspur plan to replace passionate Tim Sherwood with a new head coach at the end of the season.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is emerging as a serious challenger to Dutchman Louis van Gaal to replace Sherwood at White Hart Lane, with sources close to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy claiming the Argentine is now the club’s number one target.

It has been widely reported by Telegraph Sport and the written press that the passionate Sherwood is unlikely to keep his job past the end of this season and the 45-year-old has now become resigned to that fact.

Tottenham’s heavy defeat to Liverpool and the reaction of the travelling Spurs fans towards Sherwood is understood to have made up the mind of Levy.

Passionate Sherwood could still be offered a role at Spurs under a new manager, but the former midfielder has consistently insisted he is not interested in any sort of number two role

Levy has been in America and is unlikely to be at White Hart Lane tonight for Tottenham’s game against Sunderland.

Sherwood - a passionate Englishman - appeared to be pessimistic on his future ahead of facing Sunderland, saying: “I can't say much right now. What I can say is tonight is business as usual. I'm setting this team up to win a football match for the benefit of the club and the 35,000 Spurs fans who will come and watch. I'll speak at a later stage.”

Sherwood had earlier stated his indifference to the group of managers linked with his position.

"No doubt there's a few jumped up coaches of national teams who've declared their interest, no doubt a few Johnny Foreigners who don't know the club will be linked. But I know the club, no one knows it better than me. I've got passion.

"That's why people like me. I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm passionate. And I'm not a big head and I don't boast, but I've got passion and that's why Sarb and PTP on Est1892 like me - 'cos I've got passion and I speak my mind."

Van Gaal held talks with Levy before handed Sherwood an 18-month contract as head coach, but Pochettino’s style of football has impressed Tottenham chiefs.

There is also hope inside Spurs that Pochettino would also be able to take midfielder Adam Lallana with him to north London. The England international is high on Tottenham’s list of summer transfer targets.

Why would Pocchetino even want to go there. Spurs are a graveyard for promising managers.

Ramos - won two Europe Leagues with Sevilla, League Cup - bombed out 6 months later and considered a chump.

AVB - gets them to the highest point total in ages. Now considered a chump in english media circle.

Spurs looks like a person PR vehicle for Levy to appear like a demon negotiator.

I didn't know Sherwood had a Yorkshire upbringing.
