Real bummer for them really, what with them being lauded all season and Arsenal and Wenger being hammered, and still they finish above them.

Losing 5-1 to Newcastle, when they had the chance to finish above Arsenal
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                Spurs forum has crashed.

Less points than the team managed by Andre Villas Boas

Finished 3rd in a two horse title race between Leicester and Spurs.

Hammered 5-1 by a relegated Newcastle Utd side managed by Rafa Benitez.

They are pretty much exactly the same as they've been for years, average, ok, decent, whatever you want to term it as. A few on here (not naming any names alright) and in the media seem to make out as if they are some amazing machine, they are nothing special. Were just a bit lucky that everyone else apart from Leicester (and Arsenal I guess) were even worse. They are completely ordinary and have been insanely lucky with injuries. Nothing club, trophyless again.

Spurs have finished on 70 points

In 2014 they finished at 69 points under Sherwood.

In 2013, under AVB they had 72 points.

Harry Redknapp finished at 72 and 69 points.

In comparison we had 84 points in 2014 and 86 points in 2009.

                              Pochettino:

First of all I would like to apologise to our fans, I think they don’t deserve all that happened today on the pitch and I apologise. It was a shame and diffcult to understand.

In the last couple of weeks when you do not play with 100 per cent it is impossible to win games and after Chelsea something happened. We cannot manage games in the right way.

I am very disappointed because our fans don’t deserve it, it is difficult to go tonight and see my boys and my wife. I think it is unbelievable and we are very disappointed.

We had the possibility to stay second and how we lost and how we gave to the opponent that is relegated, in the first and second half, they score three goals with 10 players it is the worst day as a manager and I feel very disappointed. We need to be sure that never happens again and need to improve our mentality. We were on holiday and that is the reality.

To our families too, I apologise, it’s difficult to go back to see your kids, your wife, your girlfriends, your dad – this wasn’t the team that played all season. It’s my worst day as a manager. Not just in England, in Spain, too.

I don’t think it was a tactical problem or about physical conditioning. What we have said the whole season and the last few weeks is that we need to improve our mentality.

Today we can see the problem from the beginning was that we were not ready to compete and we don’t enough quality to only try to play with the ball. We need to run, we need to give 100% and be aggressive. Today we weren’t the team we showed the whole season.

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says Arsenal were "lucky" to finish second but, in doing so, expects Arsene Wenger to stay on as Gunners boss. (Daily Telegraph)
