Spurs are doing what we have been trying to do for the last 10 years, be clever. They are taking the right risks, we didn't want to pay up for Alli but did so Luis Alberto, they bought Verthongen, Sanchez and Alderweireld almost unchallenged when we were also looking for defenders.

They were haggling for Sanchez for quite a while, he was talked up in the press, they also went after an Argentininan CB who's quite promising apparently. But Alderweireld was pretty galling.

Hopefully Pochettino buggers off to Madrid soon.

Look at Leicester, Huth, Morgan and co were heading for the Championship where it looked like they belong, but a change in system turned them into one of the best defences in the league.

Point is, these players we 'missed out' on, probably wouldn't have had the same impact here as they have at Spurs and could well find themselves struggling as much as our other boys. Whether that means we need change our system slightly or buy the right palyers for our system (VVD) remains to be seen.

I get the point about the system, but Alderweireld was a pretty obvious buy, I think they got him for 5-6 million at the time. Spurs have generally recruited very well over the last few years.

I think it was £12m they got him for which was still outstanding value, but there still weren't many on here calling for us to get him, although TBF I think most were fed up with Southampton players at that stage.

You're right, it was Southampton who were supposed to get him on the cheap. I think some here wanted him earlier, when Atleti or Southampton were after him, we were linked with him at some point back then.
